Emergency Contraception at the Student Care Center
Emergency Contraception (Plan B) is available at the SCC. Plan B is now available over the counter without a prescription for individuals 17 years of age and older. If you are under 17 years old, please see a SCC medical provider for an appointment for a prescription for Plan B. Plan B is kept behind the pharmacy at local drug stores; you will need to present a picture identification to prove you are 17 years old and older. Plan B varies in price so please contact the pharmacy you are planning on visiting for an exact price. If you have any questions regarding Emergency Contraception, please contact the SCC at 773-702-4156. Emergency contraceptive pills (EC) can be used if you have had unprotected vaginal sex in the last 5 days (120 hours) and don't want to get pregnant. You may need emergency contraception if:
Emergency contraceptive pills consist of 2 doses of hormone pills (taken within 12 hours of one another) which are started within 5 days of unprotected vaginal intercourse. The sooner emergency contraception is started, the more effective it will be. If you need Emergency Contraception from the SCC, please call (773) 702-4156 and make an appointment for emergency contraception with the nurses. You will have a urine pregnancy test done at this appointment. If you are over 17 years of age, emergency contraception is available without a prescription at the DCAM pharmacy (for $21) or any pharmacy (approximately $40) (federal law requires proof of age for purchase). If you are under 17 years of age, you can obtain emergency contraception by prescription. If you have more questions on EC, please review the information in our health library and visit http://www.go2planb.com/ & http://ec.princeton.edu/ or make an appointment with a SHARE provider. |
