Womancare: Healthcare by women for women

Services that are available through Womancare include routine health care and treatment of gynecological problems. Nurse Practitioners offer annual pelvic exams including pap smears, contraceptive services and emergency contraception, information on sexually transmitted infections, lesbian health issues, and pregnancy testing, counseling, and referral. Sexuality and relationship counseling is also provided. For evaluation of urgent problems, Womancare acute care appointments are available. Please call (773) 702-4156 to schedule an appointment. Note: Women who prefer a male provider for their gynecological services may request so during the appointment process.

To prepare for a womancare appointments please do the following:

Vaginal sexual activity

It is best to abstain from any vaginal penetrative sexual activity 48 hours before your appointment. This is to prevent any interference with the pap smear and its lab results.

It is best to avoid any douching or inserting anything into the vaginal cavity 48 hours before your appointment.

Menstruation

If you are menstruating, please reschedule your appointment.

Womancare offers evaluation, treatment and management of:

  • Abnormal pap smears
  • Breast disorders
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Absent or irregular menstrual cycles
  • Pain: menstrual, intercourse, pelvic
  • Urinary or vaginal infections
  • Genital rashes and warts

Laboratory Results

If Pap smear results are abnormal, the patient is contacted as soon as possible and may be asked to make an appointment to review the results. It is essential that patients provide the Student Care Center with current addresses and phone numbers to expedite sending these reports.
