Parents' Frequently Asked Questions
Q

My child is on daily medications. Can a SCC provider oversee this type of maintenance?

A

Yes, our providers are board certified in internal medicine. The SCC is a full service healthcare center.

Q

My child is on medications that require frequent blood tests. How do we get this done while away on campus?

A

Your child should make an appointment to see a SCC provider. Our providers will document the condition and follow through with the appropriate care needed.

Q

My daughter started the HPV series. Can she complete it at the SCC instead of returning to her doctor at home?

A

Yes, the HPV vaccine is available at the SCC. A Nurse Visit appointment is required and documentation of any previous doses received. Remember that all vaccines are available at the SCC including those required for travel.

Q

Can my child receive allergy injections at your office?

A

We perform allergy injections in our office. We ask that the student make an appointment to see a provider first. The provider will give our nursing staff the clearance to administer the injections as ordered by the allergist.

Q

If my child is sick, how does he/she get seen right away?

A

First, your child should call the office to make an appointment. In most cases, there are same day appointments available, but during large volume times a nurse will evaluate and determine appropriate appointment scheduling.

Q

Where should my child call when your office is closed?

A

The Nurse Advice Line (773) 702-1915 provides information on medical questions or concerns or urgent/emergency situations after SCC business hours. The Nurse Advice Line will advise students of the appropriate medical action to take. If necessary, the nurse can contact a SCC physician-on-call.
