How PHEs Can Help Your House

Research and experience show that "peer education" is an effective tool for communicating health information and modifying health behaviors in students, teenagers, and young adults. At the University of Chicago, the SCC Peer Health Educators are here to assist Resident Hall Staff at acclimating house members to college life by tackling student health issues.

PHEs, along with the Director of Health Promotion, develop health programs to deliver to students. The PHEs will bring the program and a snack to your house for house meetings, study breaks, or other events you have happening. Contact the PHEs at 773-834-5220 or email kristyn.genrich@uchospitals.edu and the message will get to the PHEs. Some of the topics the PHEs present on include:

  • Nutrition and Healthy Eating on campus
  • Using campus health services
  • Exercise
  • Stress Management
  • Alcohol - drinking behaviors and harm reduction
  • Tobacco cessation and other drugs
  • Time management
  • Relationships and dating
  • Sleep Health
  • Safer Sex, contraception (Condom Czar Program)
  • Ergonomics (back, neck, shoulder pain)
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Other personalized programs by request

Interested in having FREE Safer Sex supplies available in your house? Participate in one of our Condom Czar Presentations and you can appoint a Condom Czar from your house to be responsible for picking up safer sex supplies for your house members. The Condom Czar presentation is 30 minutes long and can be scheduled through the PHEs 773-834-5520 or kristyn.genrich@uchospitals.edu. The PHEs will come to your house, bring a snack, safer sex supplies, and a fun presentation.

All PHE programs are FREE so why not call and invite us over? If there is a specific topic you are interested in, please contact us at 773-834-5220 and we can work on a program to fit your needs. We look forward to seeing you this year!
